Job description

Upstream is an agile spin-out, formed from a partnership between Hammersmith and Fulham and Imperial College London. 

Upstream’s objective is maintain Hammersmith and Fulham’s place as a leading borough for the science, tech and creative industries and to help catalyse a cohesive and impactful ecosystem, particularly within the White City Innovation District - as set out in the borough's industrial strategy. To do this, we build and maintain relationships with anchors, startups, entrepreneurs and influencers in this borough and beyond.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will need to:

  • To help manage stakeholder relations, including acting as a point of contact for science, tech and creative business and other relevant organisations. This will include working with the Managing Director in developing and delivering a stakeholder engagement strategy, ensuring value-added and sustainable engagement with companies, effective connections between stakeholders, and a positive impact for the local community;

  • To assist in the planning and delivery of events that support the growth of science, tech and creative businesses and raise the profile of Hammersmith & Fulham. You will have responsibility for the C-suite Life Sciences and Sustainability roundtables and other invitation-only events;

  • To support and work in a collegiate manner with Hammersmith and Fulham and Imperial College London colleagues, particularly those who are seeking to strengthen engagement and activities within the ecosystem and to increase the profile of the borough as a great place to invest.

  • To take direction from the Managing Director and assist with Upstream’s communications outreach, particularly as it relates to stakeholder meetings.

  • To undertake stakeholder mapping and nurture relationships with newly established organisations within the borough

  • To undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate to the grade and general nature of the post.

  • Ensure your actions and decisions align with the Council’s declaration of a climate and ecological emergency.

ABOUT YOU

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience managing stakeholder relations in a business, political or academic environment;

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills;

  • A self-starter who heeds guidance and steer but also uses their imagination, creativity and initiative to deliver results;

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines;

  • Ability to synthesise data and draw conclusions from it.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and work independently.

Desirable

  • Degree in science or able to demonstrate a strong interest in science.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel.

  • Working knowledge of a CRM (any).

  • Develop and update website material.
