ITV Sport is home to some of the world’s biggest sporting competitions, and we’re looking for a Director to play a key role in our busy team working across a range of high profile sporting events.

Our successful Director will direct some of the most-watched Sport on TV in the UK. From FA Cup ties at Mansfield or Manchester City to big Horse Racing days at Cheltenham or York, ITV broadcasts a range of top-class sporting action and the Director’s responsibility is to give the ITV viewer the Best Seat In The House.

 

Reporting into the Executive Director & Producer you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver and direct OBs across a variety of Sports for ITV1, ITV4 & ITVX
  • Work closely with senior management in shaping ITV Sport content strategy 
  • Form close relationships with OB suppliers in delivering that strategy 
  • Work closely with Sport Head of Production Operations, Production Executives and Production Management team to ensure successful delivery of programmes on budget
  • Develop distinctive content ideas with Programme Editors 
  • Provide constructive feedback to editorial staff both on-site and post-TX 
  • Form good working relationships with on-screen talent to develop their broadcast skills
  • Develop new and innovative production ideas for network shows and digital content

 

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:

Minimum role criteria

  • Significant live directing experience in a Sport studio and live OB event coverage.
  • Proven track record in TV production and sport journalism.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and lead a production team and crew in a live programme environment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with on-screen talent\: putting them at ease and providing the platform for them to engage with the ITV audience.
  • Work under pressure and demonstrate the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Work and support the Executive Director in developing the “look and feel” of ITV Sport studios in the form of sets and graphics.
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule workloads at extremely busy times.
  • Ensure ITV Sport produces the best output possible on the budget available.
  • Generate ideas and content suggestions across the whole of ITV Sport.
  • Have up-to-date knowledge of media law, Ofcom regulations and compliance.

Key role criteria

  • Ensure ITV is making best use of technology advances in the Sport broadcast industry
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders such as governing bodies, individual clubs and racecourses to enable ITV Sport to deliver coverage of the highest standard.
  • Take responsibility for delivering feedback to editorial staff and production crew.
  • Take the initiative with the on-screen talent and give them direct feedback on their performances.
  • Take ownership of key relationships with OB and Studio suppliers and providers
  • Take responsibility as one of the department’s leaders. Create a culture that makes ITV Sport an exciting and safe place to work.
  • Nurture and develop new production talent in the department
  • Represent ITV at an industry level
  • Take ownership of key strands of Sport output and work in conjunction with Editorial and Production Management teams to maximise possibilities both on-screen and online.
  • Support the ITV Controller of Sport, Production and ITV Director of Sport in delivering outstanding programme output. 
  • Overseas travel will be required in this role. Expect lengthy days and unsociable hours especially while working on major tournaments and events in the UK and abroad.
